Documentum Platform

Developer Components

EMC Documentum developer components provide access to EMC Documentum repository content and to all content services. Our developer components allow developers to take advantage of the open EMC Documentum platform to easily build and customize content applications and take advantage of EMC Documentum unified content services.

The developer component layer comprises predefined components and associated application programming interfaces (APIs) to enable customizations, integrations, and application development. These capabilities form the foundation for tomorrow's solutions: managed content that disparate applications can access and consume, as needed, via flexible web services.

Documentum Developer Studio

EMC Documentum Developer Studio assembles a comprehensive suite of our developer tools to assist developers in customizing and developing any type of application including web and desktop applications, server methods, business objects, and portal integrations.

Documentum Developer Studio includes the following tools and services:

  • Documentum Application Connector Software Development Kit (SDK) — EMC Documentum Application Connector SDKs are Web development kit (WDK) components that provide access to the EMC Documentum repository and content services within desktop applications such as Microsoft® Office. Application connectors are built on an open framework that enables developers to add new application connectors as plug-ins. Application developers can use the Application Connector SDK to develop additional application connectors for the Web or for the desktop application of their choice.
  • Documentum Business Objects Framework — Instead of having to build application logic separately for each application at the user interface level, the EMC Documentum Business Objects Framework allows you to build business objects that encapsulate application logic on the platform level. Developers can expose business objects to applications through Web services. You will significantly reduce time spent in development and testing as well as gain better application portability and interoperability.
  • Documentum Composer — Dramatically speeding application development, EMC Documentum Composer provides an Eclipse-based platform for assembling, configuring, and deploying EMC Documentum applications. This allows developers to assemble applications from components they develop or reuse from others, which reduces the time and cost to build vertical applications.
  • Documentum Developer Program — We offer the EMC Documentum developer community a wide range of supporting tools, information, and services including sample code, tips, peer support forums, and other timely resources. Sign up today to join the EMC Developer Network.
  • Documentum Enterprise Content Services — Comprised of a range of out-of-the-box services, EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Services supports the service-oriented vision of the EMC Documentum platform and service-oriented architecture initiatives. Reinforcing the role of enterprise content management in the information technology (IT) infrastructure, this vision includes building a complete set of services like Web services that organizations can use to build any EMC Documentum application.
  • Documentum eRoom Development Kits (eDKs) — To assist developers in building EMC Documentum eRoom applications and integrating these applications within their companies' IT infrastructures, EMC Documentum eRoom Development Kits (eDKs) supply developers with packaged sample code. Available eDKs include EMC Documentum eDK for Workflow, EMC Documentum eDK for Collaborative Search, EMC Documentum eDK for Microsoft Project, and EMC Documentum eDK for BEA WebLogic Portal.
  • Documentum Foundation Classes — Available as a secondary development method, the EMC Documentum Foundation Classes provides EMC Documentum Foundation Classes, a rich set of open application programming interfaces (APIs) that exposes the functionality of the core content services provided by the EMC Documentum platform. These APIs are open to developers to use with any standard integrated development environment (IDE).
  • Documentum Foundation Services — As the foundation of Enterprise Content Services, EMC Documentum Foundation Services offers a complete services architecture framework with runtime and design time capabilities as well as a comprehensive suite of core content services including version control and search services.
  • Documentum JDBC Services — EMC Documentum JDBC Services allows direct access to an EMC Documentum repository from any J2EE-compliant application server such as BEA WebLogic and IBM WebSphere. A powerful tool for enabling Web applications with access to both secure and nonsecure content, JDBC Services balances fast responsiveness with the tight control required when secure content is made accessible through public Web sites.
  • Documentum Web Development Kit (WDK) — Used for developing Web applications that run on J2EE application servers, the EMC Documentum WDK provides a powerful framework for rapid development of content-rich Web applications that leverage the Documentum platform’s strength and reliability. A developer’s toolkit, the WDK is based on industry standards and contains a library of over 170 reusable, prebuilt components and controls that perform common content management functions.
  • Documentum Web Development Kit (WDK) for Portlets — EMC Documentum WDK for Portlets enables customers and partners to integrate EMC Documentum content services with enterprise portals.

Other Developer Facilities

  • Documentum Forms Builder — Administrators can use EMC Documentum Forms Builder to quickly build a user interface (UI) for data capture as part of a business process.
  • Documentum Developer Training — Developers can keep up-to-date with developer-specific training on EMC Documentum products and technology.
